History of the Olympic Games Logo
The IOC was founded in Paris in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin, who designed the five interlaced rings in 1913; they first flew at the Antwerp Games of 1920 and have been the emblem of the Olympic Movement ever since. The version presented here is the IOC’s current standard full-colour rings, drawn to the official specification with the rings in their correct interlacing order. The current Olympic Games logo presented on this page is the official mark in use today, kept in its original colors and proportions.
Meaning of the Olympic Games Logo
- The five rings represent the five inhabited continents united by Olympism.
- Their interlacing stands for the meeting of the world’s athletes at the Games.
- Together with white, the ring colours once appeared in the flag of every competing nation.
