Meta Platforms, Inc. is the American technology company founded in 2004 as Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard University. It was renamed Meta on October 28, 2021, to reflect a broader ambition beyond social networking. Today Meta is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and the Reality Labs division behind Quest virtual-reality headsets, and it is headquartered in Menlo Park, California.

Logo Meaning and History

The Meta symbol is drawn as a single continuous line that forms both an infinity loop and the letter M. The never-ending shape represents the company’s vision of the metaverse, an immersive digital space where people can connect beyond the limits of today’s screens. The loop was designed to work in two and three dimensions and in motion, appearing in a range of blue gradient treatments while staying simple enough to read at any size.

Evolution

• 2004: Facebook launched as “thefacebook” with a simple lowercase wordmark in blue.
• 2005: The company dropped the “the” and became Facebook, keeping the lowercase blue wordmark.
• 2015: The Facebook wordmark was redrawn with a friendlier, more open lettering style.
• 2019: A new corporate brand logo appeared with a brighter blue circle containing the familiar f.
• 2021: With the renaming to Meta, the blue infinity-loop symbol and the “Meta” wordmark were introduced to represent the metaverse vision.

Colors and Font

The Meta identity is anchored in Meta Blue (#066FFA), a vivid blue carried over from the Facebook brand heritage and associated with trust and technology. The symbol also appears in two-tone and gradient blue variations designed for animation. The accompanying wordmark is set in a custom rounded sans-serif with evenly weighted strokes, giving the brand a clean, neutral, and approachable voice.
