About LG
LG is a South Korean multinational conglomerate founded by Koo In-hwoi, beginning as Lak-Hui Chemical Industrial Corp in 1947. The company’s GoldStar division, founded in 1958, built South Korea’s first radios and appliances, and the two sides merged as Lucky-Goldstar in 1983. In 1995 the group was renamed LG and adopted the “Life’s Good” slogan. Today LG Electronics is a global leader in televisions, home appliances, displays, and batteries.
Logo Meaning and History
The LG emblem is a circle that forms a smiling human face: the letter L becomes the nose, the G forms the head, and a single dot acts as the eye. This friendly face embodies the brand’s human-centered philosophy and its “Life’s Good” promise. The company stresses that the mark is simply the letters L and G, rather than an abbreviation, giving the initials a warm, approachable identity.
Evolution
- 1995: Lucky-GoldStar was renamed LG and the famous smiling-face circle logo was introduced to mark the company’s global ambitions.
- 2008: A glossy three-dimensional version of the logo appeared, and the corporate typeface was updated.
- 2014: The logo was flattened into a cleaner design, and the wordmark switched to LG Smart, the company’s own custom typeface.
- 2023: LG refreshed the brand identity with a livelier “Active Red” alongside the classic LG Red, plus animated versions of the face that wink, nod, and spin in digital spaces.
Colors and Font
The classic LG logo color is LG Red (#A50034), a deep burgundy shade. In 2023 the brand added LG Active Red (#FD312E), a brighter, more energetic red intended for digital audiences. The wordmark is set in LG Smart, a custom corporate typeface created for the company in 2013, which replaced the earlier use of Helvetica-based lettering.
