HP (Hewlett-Packard) was founded in 1939 by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in a Palo Alto garage, where they began with just a few hundred dollars and built their first product, an audio oscillator. It grew into one of the world’s largest personal computer and printer manufacturers. In 2015, the company split into two independent businesses: HP Inc., which continues the PCs and printing business, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which focuses on servers and business services.
The HP logo is one of the most enduring marks in the technology industry. The interlocking lowercase “hp” stands for the founders’ initials and reflects their partnership. The rounded circle surrounding the letters suggests completeness and reliability, while the signature blue color conveys trust and professionalism. Refined many times since 1939, the “hp” monogram has stayed at the heart of its identity, making it instantly recognizable worldwide.
HP’s official brand color is HP Blue, hex #0096D6 (RGB 0, 150, 214), paired with white and black. Blue symbolizes reliability and trust, matching HP’s long-standing reputation in technology. The lettering uses a custom sans-serif typeface; early versions were serif, but every major redesign since 1962 has used clean, geometric sans-serif letterforms.
