About GoDaddy
GoDaddy is one of the world’s largest domain registrars and web hosting companies, serving mostly small businesses with over 20 million customers. It was founded in 1997 in Phoenix, Arizona, by entrepreneur Bob Parsons, who had sold Parsons Technology to Intuit for $65 million. Parsons launched it as Jomax Technologies, renamed GoDaddy in February 2006 after his team bought the “Go Daddy” name in 1999 (“Big Daddy” was taken). It became the largest ICANN-accredited registrar in 2005, went public on the NYSE (GDDY) after 2011 private equity investment, and moved its headquarters from Scottsdale to Tempe, Arizona, in 2021.
GoDaddy Logo Meaning and History
The original GoDaddy logo was deliberately zany: a cartoon mascot head with a grin, green shades, a yellow star over one ear, and orange waves sprouting Mohawk-like from the top. As GoDaddy matured into a serious small-business company, it shed the wacky mascot. In January 2020, GoDaddy unveiled a new logo built around a heart-shaped design that spells out “GO,” signaling its mission of standing behind its customers.
GoDaddy Logo Evolution
- 1997: The original logo pairs a “GoDaddy” wordmark with the eccentric cartoon mascot head — green shades, yellow star, and orange hair.
- 2016: The first major overhaul since 1997 refreshes the icon and changes the font, introducing the tagline “Go You. GoDaddy.”
- 2020: A full rebrand introduces the heart-shaped “GO” icon with a thinned-out sans-serif wordmark, launched on January 14, 2020.
GoDaddy Logo Colors and Font
The current GoDaddy identity uses a simple sans-serif wordmark (set in a modified Boing typeface) alongside the heart-shaped GO icon. The original logo’s palette leaned on green shades, a yellow star, and orange waves, while the 2020 rebrand strips the identity back to a confident, minimal black wordmark. Whether you need a godaddy logo png with a transparent background or a godaddy logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the bold geometric mark stays legible at any size.
