About the Dollar General Logo Logo
Introduction
Black capitals on a band of sale-tag yellow — the Dollar General logo in this download is the current identity of America’s largest discount retailer by store count.
Brand Overview
Dollar General is an American discount retail chain founded in 1955 in Scottsville, Kentucky, by J.L. Turner and his son Cal Turner, who built the business on liquidating failed stores and selling the stock cheap. Headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, it runs more than 19,000 small-format stores, mostly in rural and small-town America. Its official website is dollargeneral.com.
History of the Dollar General Logo
The yellow band arrived as the chain standardised its storefronts: the founders’ name in heavy black type laid across a yellow slab shaped like the paper price banners of the liquidation sales the company was born from. It has been refined in weight since, but the black-on-yellow slab in this download remains one of the most recognised signs on American back roads.
Meaning of the Logo
- The yellow band: The whole logo is a sale banner — the colour and shape of a clearance tag, stretched to the width of a shopfront.
- The heavy black type: The lettering is set like a newspaper headline: a dollar store announcing itself with zero decoration and total confidence.
- “General” store honesty: The name recalls the old general store — everything a small town needs, under one low roof.
Dollar General Logo Colors
| Color | Hex Code | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Dollar General Yellow | #FFEE00 | The band field (the logo file’s own fill value) |
| Black | #1C1B1B | The DOLLAR GENERAL lettering |
The yellow band is part of the logo itself — a self-contained sign — so the artwork in this download is the complete band with no extra background added.
Conclusion
Dollar General’s logo is its business model printed on a sign: a clearance-sale banner in black and yellow, hung over 19,000 small-town doors.
