Axpo Holding AG, headquartered in Baden in the canton of Aargau, is Switzerland’s largest energy company. Established in 2001 and 100-percent publicly owned by the cantons of Northeastern Switzerland and their utilities, Axpo originates from the former Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke AG (NOK). The company produces, distributes, and markets electricity, is active in international energy trading and energy services, and operates in around 30 countries with roughly 5,000 to 7,500 employees. According to its own statements, Axpo is Switzerland’s largest producer of electricity from renewable energies.

- 2000s–2010s: Axpo builds an international energy-trading business and expands its renewable portfolio across Europe.
- 2020s: The group’s transmission and distribution grid spans more than 9,800 kilometres, supplying electricity to nearly three million people and numerous companies in Switzerland.
- 2024–2026: Axpo strengthens its position in global energy trading through numerous power purchase agreements — including a three-year PPA to supply 2.25 TWh to the Swedish green-steel producer Stegra — helping corporate customers in 40 markets cut CO2 emissions.
