Automobile was an American automobile magazine published from 1986 to 2020. It was founded in 1986 by a group of former Car and Driver employees led by David E. Davis, with support from Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, under the credo No Boring Cars. Based in Los Angeles and published monthly, it positioned itself more broadly than rival car magazines — de-emphasizing instrumented tests and technical data in favor of subjective, experiential road reports, in-depth coverage of older cars through its Collectible Classics series, and styling analysis by former General Motors designer Robert Cumberford. Its circulation reached 278,238 in 2016.
The Automobile masthead and logo embodied the magazine’s enthusiast spirit — a bold, confident automotive brand for readers who loved driving rather than just specifications. The magazine distinguished itself as more of a lifestyle publication than its competitors, and its branding reflected that experiential, design-conscious editorial voice for over three decades.
The Automobile logo was a strong automotive masthead — typically a bold, confident wordmark suited to a performance-car magazine, often rendered in red, black, or white depending on the cover treatment. Whether you need an automobile logo png with a transparent background or an automobile logo svg vector for editorial or enthusiast projects, the classic motoring-magazine artwork remains a favorite of car-culture collectors.
