About Augusta Lynx
The Augusta Lynx are a future American minor-league ice hockey team based in Augusta, Georgia. Founded in 2025, the team plans to debut in the ECHL in 2027 and will play at the New Augusta Arena, being built on the site of the former James Brown Arena. The ownership group is led by Tim Tebow and David Hodges, who also own the Tahoe Knight Monsters.
Augusta Lynx Logo Meaning and History
The Lynx name revives the identity of Augusta’s original ECHL franchise, which played from 1998 until folding mid-season in 2008–09. The new branding honors that history while giving the expansion club its own look: the announced colors — green, yellow, and black — are a deliberate nod to the Masters Tournament held in Augusta every year, tying the team to the city’s most famous sporting tradition.
Augusta Lynx Logo Evolution
- 1998: The original Augusta Lynx debut in the ECHL with a light blue, black, and silver identity.
- 2008: The franchise folds 18 games into the 2008–09 season, becoming the first ECHL team to cease operations mid-season.
- 2010–2013: The Augusta RiverHawks (SPHL) fill the gap until 2013, when an arena ice-system failure forces the club to relocate as the Macon Mayhem.
- 2025: The ECHL awards an expansion team to Augusta, backed by Tim Tebow and David Hodges.
- 2026: On May 26, 2026, the club announces it will revive the Augusta Lynx name for the 2027 debut, with new Masters-inspired green, yellow, and black colors.
Augusta Lynx Logo Colors and Font
The revived Augusta Lynx identity uses green, yellow, and black — a palette drawn from the Masters Tournament — replacing the original franchise’s light blue, black, and silver scheme. The fierce lynx imagery suits a minor-league hockey brand built on speed and grit.
