About Auburn Doubledays
The Auburn Doubledays are a collegiate summer baseball team based in Auburn, New York, playing in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League at Leo Pinckney Field at Falcon Park. The franchise dates to 1958 and played in Minor League Baseball’s New York–Penn League from 1958 to 2020 under names including the Yankees, Mets, Twins, Phillies, and Astros. The Doubledays name was adopted in 1996, honoring Abner Doubleday — the Civil War general and Auburn native apocryphally credited with inventing baseball. The team moved to the PGCBL in 2021.
Auburn Doubledays Logo Meaning and History
The Doubledays’ primary logo features a vintage, mustachioed 19th-century ballplayer — a cartoon depiction of Abner Doubleday — above the team name in classic baseball lettering. The design has stayed essentially unchanged since 1996, making it one of the oldest continuous looks in its league; only the colors have shifted with each major-league affiliation. A popular 2007 alternate mark shows a letter A wearing a Civil War cap and a bushy mustache, celebrated by fans for its old-time charm.
