About Atlas Copco

Atlas Copco is a Swedish industrial group headquartered in Nacka (Sickla), Sweden, manufacturing compressors, vacuum equipment, industrial power tools, and portable power solutions for customers in more than 70 countries. It was founded in 1873 as AB Atlas to supply Sweden’s railways and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2023. Today the group is organized around four business areas — compressor, vacuum, industrial, and power technique — and holds leading positions in most of its markets.

Atlas Copco Logo Meaning and History

The name combines “Atlas,” the Titan of Greek mythology who held up the sky and symbolizes strength and global industry, with “Copco,” taken from the Belgian subsidiary Compagnie Pneumatique Commerciale. The signature handwritten script wordmark reflects the company’s heritage, rendered in soft blue with bold horizontal stripes above and below.

Atlas Copco Logo Evolution

• 1873: AB Atlas launched with an emblem featuring a winged railway wheel and a crown, reflecting its railway-supply origins.
• 1917: The merger with Diesel Motors created Atlas Diesel, with a retro-styled wordmark used on annual reports.
• 1956: As diesel engines were dropped in favor of compressors and tools, the company adopted the name Atlas Copco and the handwriting-inspired script.
• 2023: The group introduced a separate “Group” logotype to distinguish its corporate identity from product branding.
