Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California, founded on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. Best known for the iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple Watch, Apple grew from a garage startup into one of the world’s most valuable brands, with more than two billion of its devices in active use worldwide.
The Apple logo meaning is rooted in simplicity and knowledge. The company’s first emblem, drawn by Ron Wayne, depicted Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. It was quickly replaced by Rob Janoff’s famous bitten apple. The bite was designed so the mark would never be mistaken for a cherry, while the rainbow stripes celebrated human creativity and the Apple II’s then-revolutionary color graphics. Anyone researching Apple logo history is usually surprised by the Newton chapter — but the bitten apple has remained the brand’s identity ever since.
Today’s Apple logo is rendered in monochrome — black (#000000) on light backgrounds or white (#FFFFFF) reversed on dark ones. The original 1977 version carried the famous rainbow stripes. The mark is a symbol-only logo with no built-in wordmark; Apple’s branding and product interfaces use the company’s proprietary San Francisco typeface.
