About Ancona Calcio
Ancona Calcio was an Italian football club based in Ancona, the capital of the Marche region on the Adriatic coast. Founded in 1905 as Unione Sportiva Anconitana, the club adopted the Ancona Calcio name in 1982. Known by the nicknames “I Dorici” (the Dorians, referencing Ancona’s ancient Greek founders) and “I Biancorossi” (the White-Reds), the club reached Serie A twice, the pinnacle of Italian football. Financial troubles led to bankruptcy in 2010, ending the historic club’s journey, though successor clubs have carried the Ancona football tradition forward. Ancona Calcio remains a proud chapter in the football history of central Italy.
Ancona Calcio Logo Meaning and History
The Ancona Calcio logo was a classic Italian football crest built around the club’s white-and-red colors and its Doric heritage. Italian club badges traditionally feature shields containing the team’s colors, founding year, and civic symbols — in Ancona’s case, references to the city’s ancient Greek origins and Adriatic maritime identity. The crest appeared on the Biancorossi kits during the club’s Serie A campaigns, becoming a symbol of pride for the Marche region. After the 2010 bankruptcy, the original Ancona Calcio badge became a historical emblem, preserved in football archives and vector-logo collections as a tribute to over a century of football in Ancona.
