About AMI

AMI, formerly American Megatrends Inc., is an international hardware and software company specializing in PC hardware and firmware, headquartered near Duluth, Georgia. Founded in 1985 by Pat Sarma and Subramonian Shankar, AMI began as a high-end motherboard manufacturer — its first customer was PCs Limited, later known as Dell — before becoming the company behind AMIBIOS, the Aptio UEFI firmware, and MegaRAC server management firmware used across the PC industry. In 2020 the company rebranded to AMI, and in 2026 it was acquired by Lattice Semiconductor.

AMI Logo Meaning and History

The AMI logo is a compact three-letter wordmark, adopted when the company shortened its name from American Megatrends to simply AMI in 2020. The crisp, technical lettering reflects the company’s engineering roots: millions of computers have booted up displaying the AMI BIOS screen, making those three letters quietly famous among PC builders and IT professionals.
