AMG — short for Aufrecht, Melcher, Großaspach — is the high-performance subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz AG, headquartered in Affalterbach, Germany. It was founded in 1967 by former Mercedes-Benz engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher as an independent engineering firm specializing in racing engines and performance upgrades for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. DaimlerChrysler acquired a controlling interest in 1999 and became the sole owner in 2005, making Mercedes-AMG GmbH a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mercedes-Benz Group. AMG models feature hand-built engines under the division’s “one man, one engine” philosophy and far greater performance than standard Mercedes-Benz cars, and the division supplies engines for Pagani and Aston Martin.
The AMG name comes from the initials of its founders — Aufrecht and Melcher — plus Großaspach, Aufrecht’s birthplace.
The AMG emblem is rendered in silver, black, and white, matching the precision-engineered image of the brand. The bold, italicized lettering conveys speed and power, while the three-pointed star anchors it to Mercedes-Benz. Whether you need an amg logo png with a transparent background or an amg logo svg vector for print work, the monochrome metallic artwork stays sharp and recognizable at any size.
