American Express Travel is the travel-services arm of the American Express Company, founded on March 18, 1850, in Buffalo, New York, as an express freight-forwarding business. It was formed by the merger of the express companies owned by Henry Wells (Wells & Company), William G. Fargo (Livingston, Fargo & Company) and John Warren Butterfield (Butterfield, Wasson & Company) — the same founders who later started Wells Fargo. The company’s move into financial services laid the groundwork for travel: money orders arrived in 1882, followed by travelers’ cheques devised by Marcellus Berry at the direction of president J. C. Fargo, who had struggled to get cash with letters of credit on a European trip. Sold with the slogan “Don’t leave home without them,” travelers’ cheques made American Express a truly international company and the natural home of a global travel service.
The brand’s emblem is the Roman centurion, adopted as the company mascot in 1958 — a symbol of trust, protection and strength for travelers carrying their money abroad. The centurion in the blue box has fronted everything from charge cards to travel services for more than six decades.
The identity centers on the centurion in American Express’s signature blue box, paired with a strong serif-style wordmark. Whether you need an american express travel logo png with a transparent background or an american express travel logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the bold emblem stays recognizable at any size.
