About Air France
Air France is the flag carrier of France, formed on August 30, 1933, through the merger of five existing French airlines. A founding member of the SkyTeam alliance in 2000, it merged with KLM in 2003 to create the Air France–KLM group. The airline operates from its Paris–Charles de Gaulle hub to nearly 200 destinations across almost 80 countries, and was one of only two airlines — with British Airways — to operate the supersonic Concorde until 2003.
Air France Logo Meaning and History
The brand’s signature is the red stripe — a mark of French elegance, speed, and refinement. The airline’s earliest emblem was the “crevette” (shrimp), a winged symbol dating to 1933. The modern identity strips the branding down to the essential: a bold red stripe paired with clean wordmark lettering, instantly recognizable on aircraft tails worldwide.
Air France Logo Evolution

- 2000: Air France co-founded the SkyTeam alliance, extending its brand across partner airlines.
- 2009: The current logo debuted — a bold red stripe with the Air France wordmark.
