The American Express Company (Amex) is an American multinational financial-services corporation founded on March 18, 1850, in Buffalo, New York, by Henry Wells, William G. Fargo, and John Warren Butterfield as an express-delivery business. It entered finance with money orders in 1882 and traveler’s cheques in 1891, launched its first charge card in 1958, introduced the Gold Card in 1966, and debuted the “Don’t Leave Home Without It” campaign in 1975. Today more than 140 million Amex cards are in force worldwide.
The brand’s symbol is the Centurion — the helmeted gladiator head introduced with the card business — standing for strength, integrity, and security. Framed in the famous “Blue Box,” the wordmark conveys premium, dependable financial services. The Centurion also gives its name to Amex’s invitation-only Centurion Card, launched in 1999.
The identity uses American Express blue and white in a bold serif wordmark inside the Blue Box. Whether you need an american express logo png with a transparent background or an american express logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the flat blue-and-white artwork stays recognizable at any size.
