About Allstate

The Allstate Corporation is an American insurance company headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois. Founded on April 17, 1931, as part of Sears, Roebuck and Co. — named after Sears’ popular tire brand — Allstate sold auto insurance by direct mail and through the Sears catalog. It became a fully independent company in June 1995 after Sears spun off its remaining stake. Today Allstate offers auto, home, life, and business insurance, and its “You’re in Good Hands” slogan, in use since 1950, is among the most recognized in American advertising.

Allstate Logo Meaning and History

The Allstate logo portrays a pair of cupped human hands, a literal visualization of the “You’re in Good Hands” promise. The original hands logo was designed in the 1950s by employee Theodore Conterio, who won a $50 company prize for the design based on the slogan created by sales manager Davis W. Ellis in 1950. The hands remain one of the most trusted symbols in insurance.
