About AKG
AKG is an Austrian manufacturer of headphones, microphones, and wireless audio systems, founded in 1949 in Vienna by physicist Rudolf Görike and engineer Ernst Pless as Akustische und Kino-Geräte Gesellschaft m.b.H. (Acoustic and Film Equipment). The company began by supplying cinemas with loudspeakers and projectors, then moved into microphones — its 1953 D12 was the world’s first dynamic cardioid microphone — and headphones, beginning with the K120 DYN in 1949. AKG became part of Harman International in 1994, received a Technical Grammy Award in 2010 for its work in the recording field, and joined Samsung Electronics when Samsung acquired Harman in 2017.
AKG Logo Meaning and History
The AKG logo is a clean, geometric “AKG” wordmark in charcoal gray, with “by HARMAN” set beneath — a mark of corporate lineage that reassures buyers of the brand’s Harman and Samsung backing. The spare, engineered letterforms mirror the brand’s studio-equipment precision, and the registered-trademark symbol underscores its professional-audio pedigree.
AKG Logo Evolution
- 1949: AKG is founded in Vienna as Akustische und Kino-Geräte Gesellschaft m.b.H.; it begins producing headphones (the K120 DYN) and microphones.
- 1953–1965: The D12 becomes the world’s first dynamic cardioid microphone; the company name is shortened to AKG in 1965.
- 1994–2017: AKG joins Harman International (1994), wins a Technical Grammy (2010), and transfers to Samsung ownership with Harman’s 2017 acquisition.
AKG Logo Colors and Font
The current mark is rendered in charcoal gray on white — understated and technical, like studio hardware itself. The bold geometric sans-serif letterforms are highly legible at any size, and the smaller “by HARMAN” caption anchors the brand within its corporate family.
