AIDS Vancouver is a Canadian non-profit organization founded in early 1983 — recognized as one of the first community-based AIDS organizations in Canada — responding to the HIV/AIDS crisis in the Vancouver area. It was founded by Gordon Price, Noah Stewart, Dr. Mike Maynard, Daryl Nelson, and Ron Alexander Slater, and incorporated as the Vancouver AIDS Society on August 4, 1983. The organization provides support, counselling, a community resource centre, outreach, a grocery program, and advocacy for people affected by HIV/AIDS in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, with the help of around 200 volunteers. In March 2024, the organization updated its purpose, values, and name to Ribbon Community Society, with its programs and services continuing unchanged.
The AIDS Vancouver logo pairs a bold maroon wordmark with a golden-yellow figure with raised arms — a universal gesture of celebration, resilience, and community support. The warm, human mark reflects the organization’s grassroots mission of care, dignity, and empowerment for people living with HIV.
The logo combines a deep maroon wordmark with a golden-yellow figure on white — a warm, hopeful palette that balances gravity with optimism. The bold, slightly hand-drawn letterforms give the mark a human, community-made character.
