About Adelaide University

Adelaide University is a new public university in Adelaide, South Australia, created through the merger of two historic institutions — the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. Opening to students in January 2026, it unites the research depth and heritage of its founders in a single, future-focused institution. It operates campuses in Adelaide and regional South Australia, offering programs across the sciences, engineering, health, business, arts, and education.

Adelaide University Logo Meaning and History

The Adelaide University identity was created in partnership with global creative consultancy Lippincott and unveiled in July 2024. At its heart is an abstract “AU” monogram: the “A” rendered in a serif style nodding to academic tradition, and the “U” sweeping upward to symbolize energy and progress. The monogram’s forward tilt suggests momentum, its curvature recalls the founders’ shields, and its angularity nods to the iconic Adelaide Festival Theatre. Lippincott deliberately moved past ornate crests and Latin mottos to forge a brand for the next generation.

Adelaide University Logo Evolution

• 2024 — On July 15, 2024, the new Adelaide University brand is officially launched at the Adelaide Convention Centre, revealing the abstract “AU” monogram.
• 2025 — A domestic brand campaign rolls out across Australia.
• 2026 — Adelaide University opens its doors to students in January, retiring the separate identities of its two founding institutions.

Adelaide University Logo Colors and Font

The identity keeps the deep navy blue common to both founding universities for continuity and heritage, adds a digital blue signaling future-ready education, and introduces “North Terrace purple” — trademarked — evoking South Australia’s jacaranda trees. The “AU” monogram appears in pristine white on dark blue, paired with a contemporary serif logotype.
