About ActelDirect
ActelDirect was the online store of Actel Corporation, the American semiconductor company that pioneered field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) for high-reliability markets. Actel was founded in 1985 and became known for its antifuse-based FPGAs, whose immunity to radiation-induced upsets made them the technology of choice for military and aerospace applications — including satellites and the Mars Rover. The company shipped its first FPGAs in 1988, later adding flash-based ProASIC and mixed-signal SmartFusion devices. In November 2010, Microsemi acquired Actel for approximately $430 million; Microsemi itself was later acquired by Microchip Technology in 2018.
ActelDirect Logo Meaning and History
The ActelDirect brand was Actel’s direct e-commerce channel, letting engineers buy development kits, programming hardware and devices straight from the manufacturer. The Actel name itself — short, technical and modern — matched the company’s identity as an innovator in programmable logic, a company whose former CEO said was the first to use the term “FPGA.” The “Direct” branding emphasized speed and accessibility for design engineers who needed parts without distributor delays.
Evolution of the ActelDirect Logo
