ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States, administered by ACT, Inc. First introduced in November 1959 by University of Iowa professor Everett Franklin Lindquist, it was originally called the American College Test. The first ACT was delivered to 75,406 students on November 7, 1959. Today the test covers English, mathematics, reading and science, with an optional writing section, and each multiple-choice section is scored on a 1–36 scale. In 2012 the ACT surpassed the SAT in total test takers for the first time, and it is now accepted by all four-year U.S. colleges and more than 225 universities outside the country. In April 2024, ACT was purchased by private equity firm Nexus Capital Management.
The ACT brand is built on three bold letters that generations of students recognize instantly. Originally an abbreviation of American College Testing, “ACT” now stands alone as one of education’s most trusted marks. The logo’s confident, collegiate styling reflects the test’s founding philosophy: that college entrance exams should measure achievement — what students learned in school — rather than innate aptitude, a direct challenge to the SAT of its era.
The ACT logo uses a bold, collegiate blue wordmark — three strong letters built for test booklets, score reports and campus signage. Whether you need an act logo png with a transparent background or an act logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the simple, high-contrast mark stays legible at any size.
