AC/DC are an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. Playing hard rock, blues rock and heavy metal, they became one of the best-selling music acts of all time, with over 200 million records sold worldwide. After singer Bon Scott died in 1980, English vocalist Brian Johnson joined for Back in Black, one of the best-selling albums in history.
The AC/DC name came from the “AC/DC” marking on the AC adapter of the Young brothers’ sister Margaret’s sewing machine — the abbreviation for alternating current and direct current. The brothers felt the name symbolized the raw energy of their performances. The band’s iconic logo was designed by American typographer Gerard Huerta in 1977 and first appeared on the international version of the album Let There Be Rock. It stylizes the name with a lightning bolt separating AC from DC — a visual jolt of electricity that captures the band’s high-voltage spirit.
The classic AC/DC logo is a bold custom lettering with the signature lightning bolt, most famously shown as white on black. The flat, high-contrast artwork stays readable at any size. Whether you need an ac/dc logo png with a transparent background or an ac/dc logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the black-and-white artwork remains one of the most recognizable marks in rock music.
