A&W is an American fast-food restaurant chain famous for its draft root beer and root beer floats. On June 20, 1919, Roy W. Allen opened a roadside root beer stand in Lodi, California. Allen soon partnered with Frank Wright, combining their initials as A&W Root Beer. In 1924 Allen bought out Wright, trademarked the name and began selling restaurant franchises — making A&W one of the first franchised restaurant chains in the United States. Growth was explosive: more than 170 outlets by 1933, over 450 by 1950, and more than 2,000 restaurants by 1960. Today hundreds of A&W locations serve burgers, hot dogs and frosty root beer mugs worldwide; the Canadian chain has been separate since 1972.
The interlocked ‘A&W’ monogram — the founders’ initials — sits at the center of a warm badge, framed since 1966 by the famous oval with an orange ‘boomerang’ swoosh. The orange and brown palette evokes frothy root beer in a frosty mug, brown sugar and caramel — the flavors the brand is built on. The friendly script and the boomerang’s forward sweep give the mark a cheerful, drive-in-era optimism.
The palette is A&W orange, warm brown and white — the colors of root beer, caramel and foam. The custom script is rounded and nostalgic — a link to the drive-in heyday. Whether you need an a&w logo png with a transparent background or an a&w logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the cheerful orange-and-brown badge stays appetizing at any size.
