About ams AG
ams AG is an Austrian semiconductor company that designs and manufactures sensors and sensing solutions — including optical, imaging, and audio sensors — for the automotive, industrial, medical, and consumer electronics markets. Founded in the early 1980s as austriamicrosystems, the company shortened its name to ams AG in 2012. In 2020, ams completed its acquisition of the German lighting company OSRAM, and the combined group adopted the ams-OSRAM identity, with thousands of employees worldwide and operations spanning semiconductor manufacturing and photonics.
ams AG Logo Meaning and History
The ams logo is a minimalist lowercase wordmark in a blue-gray tone, projecting technical precision and European engineering excellence. The simple three-letter abbreviation maximizes efficiency while keeping a modern, approachable feel, and the restrained palette reflects the scientific rigor at the core of the company’s sensor technology. The mark adapted seamlessly as the company evolved from austriamicrosystems to ams and later to the combined ams-OSRAM group.
