Plaid is an American financial technology company based in San Francisco that builds the data-transfer network powering much of modern digital finance. Founded in 2012 by Zach Perret and William Hockey, they originally tried to build budgeting software but pivoted after discovering how hard it was to connect bank accounts — creating a unified banking API for checking balances, verifying identity, and moving money. Today, popular apps like Venmo and Chime rely on Plaid’s infrastructure behind the scenes, and the company operates across seven countries including the US, Canada, the UK, France, and the Netherlands. In January 2020, Visa announced a $5.3 billion acquisition of Plaid, but abandoned it after the US Department of Justice sued to block it.
The Plaid logo is a model of fintech restraint: a simple, confident lowercase wordmark with no icon or embellishment. The straightforward typography reflects the company’s role as invisible infrastructure — Plaid powers financial experiences inside other companies’ apps rather than courting consumers directly. The mark has remained essentially unchanged since the early years.
The Plaid wordmark is rendered in a dark, near-black navy tone in a clean, geometric sans-serif typeface — conveying the trust and stability a company handling bank connections must project. The lowercase treatment keeps the brand approachable, while the flat, unadorned lettering scales effortlessly. Whether you need a plaid logo png with a transparent background or a plaid logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the minimal wordmark stays recognizable at any size.
