Alawal Bank — formerly Saudi Hollandi Bank — was one of Saudi Arabia’s pioneering commercial banks, tracing its roots to 1926 as the Kingdom’s first operating bank. Rebranded as Alawwal Bank in 2016, it offered retail, corporate, and treasury banking services from its Riyadh headquarters. In 2019, Alawwal completed a landmark merger with SABB (Saudi British Bank), creating one of the largest banking combinations in Saudi history under the SABB name. The Alawwal chapter closed as its operations and branches were integrated into the merged bank. As Saudi Hollandi Bank, it was the Kingdom’s first operating bank — a pioneer of Saudi finance since 1926. Its branches were gradually rebranded following the historic SABB merger.
The Alawwal Bank logo featured a modern, streamlined wordmark introduced with the 2016 rebrand, designed to signal a fresh, customer-focused era for the historic bank. Rendered in confident blue tones, the identity balanced nearly a century of banking heritage with contemporary digital-ready design. The mark appeared on branches, cards, and digital platforms across the Kingdom until the SABB merger, after which the combined bank adopted its own unified identity. The 2016 rebrand gave the historic bank a contemporary face for its final chapter before the landmark SABB merger. The group’s diversified portfolio spans industry, construction, and real estate.
