Amstel is a Dutch beer brand founded in 1870 in Amsterdam by Charles Antoine de Pesters, Johannes Hendrikus van Marwijk Kooy, and Willem Eduard Uhlenbroek, and named after the Amstel river. The symbolic first stone was laid on June 11, 1870, the first brew was completed on October 25, 1871, and the brewery officially opened on January 15, 1872. Amstel grew into a major Dutch exporter before being taken over by Heineken N.V. in 1968; the Amsterdam brewing plant closed in 1982 and production moved to Heineken’s main plant at Zoeterwoude. Today Amstel Lager is sold in 75 countries, alongside Amstel Light, Amstel 1870, Amstel Zero, and Amstel Radler.
The Amstel logo centers on a proud red crest bearing the AMSTEL wordmark and the founding year “1870,” honoring the brewery’s Amsterdam heritage. The shield-like emblem echoes traditional European brewing heraldry and has carried the brand through more than 150 years of ownership changes, from an independent Amsterdam brewery to a global Heineken brand.
The Amstel logo is built on a bold red and white palette, with the wordmark set in classic serif lettering inside the crest. The red conveys heritage and celebration, while the white keeps the mark crisp on bottles, cans, and signage. Whether you need an amstel logo png with a transparent background or an amstel logo svg vector for design work, the flat red-and-white artwork remains unmistakable at any size.
