SAP Ariba is a cloud-based procurement and spend-management platform owned by German software giant SAP SE. It was founded in 1996 in Palo Alto, California, by Bobby Lent, Boris Putanec, Paul Touw, Rob Desantis, Ed Kinsey, Paul Hegarty, and Keith Krach, who set out to move corporate purchasing – then a paper-based, labor-intensive process – onto the internet. Ariba went public in 1999 as one of the first business-to-business internet IPOs, its shares tripling on opening day. In October 2012, SAP acquired Ariba for about $4.4 billion, and in January 2016 the business was rebranded as SAP Ariba, the name under which SAP still sells all of its procurement software.
The name “Ariba” is a neologism chosen by a branding company because it is easy to pronounce and spell – the pre-launch name was Procuresoft. The brand’s wordmark, a confident blue logotype, mirrors the company’s role as a trusted enterprise platform connecting buyers and suppliers. Since the SAP acquisition, the mark is presented as “SAP Ariba,” joining the parent company’s identity to the procurement brand.
The Ariba identity centers on a corporate blue wordmark set in a clean, modern sans-serif – a palette that signals trust and reliability for enterprise buyers.
