Acclaim Entertainment was an American video game publisher founded in 1987 by Greg Fischbach, Robert Holmes, and Jim Scoroposki, starting from a storefront in Oyster Bay, New York. The name was deliberately chosen to sit alphabetically above co-founder Fischbach’s former employer Activision (and rival Accolade). Acclaim grew into a major force of the 16-bit and 32-bit eras, publishing home ports of Midway arcade hits — including Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, Turok, WWF wrestling games, and The Simpsons. After financial troubles and an SEC investigation, the company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in September 2004. Its name and logo were later bought for $100,000, and the Acclaim label was relaunched in 2025 as an indie game publisher.
The classic Acclaim logo, introduced in 1988, showed the word “Acclaim” in white on a black background, underlined by a rainbow-gradient arrow-like line sweeping left — with the letter “C” rendered as chevron-like brackets. The vibrant multi-color underline captured the excitement and diversity of gaming in the cartridge era, helping Acclaim boxes stand out on crowded retail shelves. The mark became a nostalgic emblem for gamers who grew up renting Acclaim titles, from NBA Jam to Mortal Kombat II.
The classic logo pairs a white bold wordmark on black with a rainbow-gradient underline — a joyful 1990s palette. Whether you need an acclaim entertainment logo png with a transparent background or an acclaim entertainment logo svg vector for retro-gaming content, the rainbow-arrow mark is instantly nostalgic and highly recognizable.
