ABB is a Swiss-Swedish multinational industrial technology company headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. It was formed in 1988 through the historic merger of ASEA (Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget) of Sweden and Brown, Boveri & Cie of Switzerland — two electrical-engineering giants with roots stretching back over a century. Today ABB operates in electrification, industrial automation, motion (drives and motors), and robotics, serving utilities, industry, transport, and infrastructure customers worldwide, and has been a Fortune Global 500 company for decades.
The ABB identity was designed by Alan Fletcher of Pentagram in 1987 to mark the merger. Rather than favoring either legacy brand, Fletcher created something entirely new: three bold red capital letters, each partitioned by thin white lines. The segmented letterforms read like a mosaic or puzzle — evoking the collaboration of many specialists, departments, and subsidiaries joining into one force — while some see echoes of the Swiss cross and Sweden’s national colors honoring both founding nations. The four-part division also mirrors the company’s four business segments, and the red breaks from the blue conventions of engineering brands to signal energy and industrial power.
The ABB logo uses a single vivid corporate red — approximately #ED1C24 (often cited as #EC1C24) — on a white field. The custom geometric sans-serif letterforms are tightly spaced into a unified block, with squared terminals and a horizontal negative-space cut across each letter. Whether you need an abb logo png with a transparent background or an abb logo svg vector for large-format use, the stark red mark stays legible at any scale.
