About Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies are a Major League Baseball team founded in 1883 by sporting-goods manufacturer Al Reach and attorney John Rogers — one of the longest continuously used nicknames in professional sports. The franchise has won two World Series championships (1980 and 2008) and eight National League pennants. Since 2004 the team has played its home games at Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia, cheered on by the beloved mascot, the Phillie Phanatic.
Philadelphia Phillies Logo Meaning and History
The current script “Phillies” wordmark, dotted with stars and paired with the Liberty Bell, ties the team directly to Philadelphia’s revolutionary heritage. The Liberty Bell cap insignia is one of baseball’s most recognizable marks, while the classic “P” monogram nods to the team’s long history dating back to the 19th century.
Philadelphia Phillies Logo Evolution
- 1883: The franchise debuted as the Phillies, wearing early script and block-letter marks.
- 1970: A maroon “P” with stars became the primary logo for the Veterans Stadium era, used through 1991.
- 1992: The current identity arrived — a red script “Phillies” with the Liberty Bell, in the team’s classic red, white, and blue.
- 2019: The logo received a subtle modern refresh while keeping the Liberty Bell and script wordmark.
