About Aizpute
Aizpute is a historic town in the Courland region of western Latvia, formerly known by its German name Hasenpoth. The town was once the center of Aizpute county, a historic administrative region of the Courland Governorate established in the nineteenth century. Aizpute Municipality existed from 2009 until 2021, when it was merged into the larger South Kurzeme Municipality as part of Latvia’s administrative reform. With its churches, historic streets, and surrounding countryside, Aizpute represents the quiet heritage of rural Latvia, where centuries of Livonian, German, and Latvian history are layered into the townscape.
Aizpute Logo Meaning and History
The Aizpute logo is a civic identity mark representing the Latvian town and its heritage. Municipal and regional logos in Latvia typically draw on local heraldry, historic architecture, or natural symbols, rendered in dignified colors that reflect civic pride. Such marks appear on official documents, town signage, tourism materials, and local sports identities, serving as the visual signature of the community. The Aizpute identity carries the character of a Courland town with deep historical roots, from its days as a county capital to its present place within South Kurzeme Municipality.
