About AEG
AEG — Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft — was one of the world’s largest electrical corporations. The company was founded in 1883 in Berlin by Emil Rathenau as the Deutsche Edison-Gesellschaft für angewandte Elektricität, and renamed Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft shortly after. Its product range covered the entire field of electrical engineering, from light bulbs and motors to appliances, transformers, and power plants. AEG engineers developed the magnetophone in the 1930s — the basis of magnetic tape recording. After insolvency in 1982 and a takeover by Daimler-Benz, the group was dissolved and the AEG brand name was sold off; today various companies use it under license, most visibly for home appliances.
AEG Logo Meaning and History
The AEG wordmark is one of the most famous in design history. In 1907 the company appointed architect Peter Behrens as artistic adviser for its entire corporate identity — stationery, products, factories, and logo — making AEG a pioneer of unified corporate design. Behrens refined the three letters into an Antiqua (serif) form in 1908 whose shape has remained essentially unchanged for over a century — a symbol of industrial strength stripped of Art Nouveau ornament.
AEG Logo Evolution
- 1883 — Emil Rathenau founds the Deutsche Edison-Gesellschaft in Berlin, soon renamed Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft.
- 1908 — Peter Behrens finalizes the Antiqua three-letter logotype, one of the first modern corporate identities.
- 1967 — AEG merges with subsidiary Telefunken to form AEG-Telefunken.
- 1985 — After insolvency, Daimler-Benz takes over the company; the AEG brand name is later sold off and licensed.
- Present — The red AEG wordmark lives on under license, most prominently on Electrolux-owned home appliances.
AEG Logo Colors and Font
The modern AEG mark is rendered in a strong, confident red — the brand’s signature color — with the classic Antiqua serif letterforms designed in the Behrens era. For an aeg logo png with a transparent background or an aeg logo svg vector for appliance and retail content, the flat red artwork stays bold at any size.
