About Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves are an American professional baseball team based in the Atlanta metropolitan area, competing in Major League Baseball’s National League East division. The franchise was founded in Boston in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings, making it the oldest continuously operating professional sports franchise in North America. After stints as the Boston and Milwaukee Braves, the club moved to Atlanta in 1966. The Braves have won four World Series titles — 1914, 1957, 1995, and 2021 — the only MLB franchise to win championships in three different home cities, and play at Truist Park.
Atlanta Braves Logo Meaning and History
The modern Braves logo pairs a cursive Braves script with the team’s iconic tomahawk — a Native American-inspired emblem that has defined the club’s identity since the name was adopted in 1912, a nod to the braves of New York’s Tammany Hall political machine. Earlier logos featured a Native American warrior from 1945 to 1955 and a laughing figure with a mohawk and feather from 1956 to 1965, before the franchise settled on the script-and-tomahawk combination.

- 1987: The modern logo debuted — the cursive Braves wordmark with a tomahawk below it, evoking the club’s 1950s classic look — and has defined the team ever since.
- 2019: The club refined its palette, darkening the shades of blue and gold used with the tomahawk mark.
