About Aperture Science

Note: Aperture Science is a fictional company from Valve’s Portal video game series. In the games’ lore, it is a scientific research corporation founded by Cave Johnson as Aperture Fixtures, a shower-curtain maker, later renamed Aperture Science Innovators. Johnson built the Enrichment Center inside a salt mine in Upper Michigan, where the Portal games take place. Its inventions include the Portal Gun, the Weighted Storage Cube, and GLaDOS, the homicidal AI that takes over the facility.

Aperture Science Logo Meaning and History

The Aperture Science emblem centers on a stylized camera-aperture icon — a visual pun on the company’s name and its portal technology. Its best-known slogan, spoken by GLaDOS, is “We do what we must, because we can.”
